“We’ve sold several thousand units of our original trayGUARD+ through both retail and wholesale channels such as Amazon and Magellan’s, and in doing so we have found that consumers like purchasing trayGUARD+ for use by their children. As a result, we developed trayGUARD^®+  Kids”, says Drebitko.  How many times have you let your children eat those pretzels and peanuts directly off of their airplane tray table?  Dirty diapers, airborne germs, used tissues containing bodily fluids, and purses that have rested on the bathroom floor, rest on the same tray tables on which our children eat and play.  With quick turnarounds and continuous budget tightening, most airlines only deep clean their cabin interiors every 30 days.  This suggests that many of those airplane trays are left with the food, germs and other bodily fluids from dozens of passengers that have sat in the seat before you.

Add to this the need to keep children entertained and content while traveling, and, thus, the concept for trayGUARD^®+ Kids was born. trayGUARD^®+ Kids is made from the same fabric as the original trayGUARD^®+, which, is food contact safe and chemical free. The fabric used in the product is made from 100% recycled bottles and employs natural silver and copper ion technology.  Unlike wipes or gels that provide one-time, short-term protection and must be reapplied frequently, trayGUARD^®+ Kids, provides a constant hygienic surface for the duration of your trip.  The best part for kids is that both sides of the “blank white canvas” can be decorated with the 4-pack of crayons included.  trayGUARD^®+ Kids allow kids to eat and play while parents remain worry free.

“After receiving feedback from trayGUARD^®+ users and having several airline stewards suggest that we let our children color on the trayGUARD^®+ so that they don’t color on the tray tables, we thought that the combination of travel health with an onboard activity made good sense,” said Wilbur.   Children can color one side on the outbound flight, and the other side on the return.  At the same time, they can dump their bag of pretzels right on the trayGUARD^®+ Kids and parents don’t have to worry about them catching something from the tray table.

To fund the production and launch of trayGUARD^®+ Kids, Drebitko and Wilbur are using the crowd funding platform, Kickstarter.  Crowdfunding has become popular during the last several years as a way for entrepreneurs to attract investment via the Internet through individual “investors.” Kickstarter is one of dozens of crowdfunding platforms that allow individuals to support projects through donations typically in amounts ranging from $10 to $1000. The Kickstarter campaign for trayGUARD^®+ Kids launched on Thursday, May 15 and will run for 30 days. Pending a successful campaign, Wilbur and Drebitko hope to have the new product available for wholesale and retail purchase before the 2014 holiday season. On-going information about the Kickstarter campaign is available at: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/trayguardkids/trayguard-kids-play-and-eat-worry-free-while-trave

“Conscious of plane germs? The trayGUARD is a tray table cover that provides an instant hygienic surface for flyers. The inventors say it is food contact safe and incorporates a chemical-free antimicrobial technology that is effective for the duration of your trip. Just slip it over your tray and you won’t have to worry about catching flu germs. There is even a kids’ version which comes with crayons for children to decorate their trayGUARD.”

“Airplanes are dirty. One microbiologist’s investigation of eight flights found MRSA and norovirus on airline trays and E. coli in the bathrooms.

There are no industry-wide regulations on how well or how often planes must be cleaned, and while airlines tidy up between flights, there’s not enough time to wipe down surfaces or clean out the seat-back pockets. Because of the spread of Ebola in 2014, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines have begun disinfecting planes that fly to and from western Africa, but that’s not the norm.

Your ticket price can affect how clean your seat is, too; according to the Wall Street Journal, Delta and United wipe down tray tables and windows between flights only in the first-class section.

What should you do when you sit in your (presumably filthy) plane seat? The easiest solution is to use disinfecting wipes on your tray table (top and bottom), armrests, TV-screen remote and any other hard surfaces. When you use the airplane bathroom, wash your hands thoroughly and use a paper towel to open the door.

Other types of travel gear help you avoid airplane germs by covering dirty surfaces…The trayGUARD is an antimicrobial cover for your airplane tray table.”

“On a trip to England when I was 15, I was forced by my well-meaning but clueless parents to wait in line for over an hour to get into the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. Aside from the obvious injustice of forcing a teenager to parade through a museum with exhibits such as Sextants Through History—which was even more annoying once I realized sextants had nothing to do with sex—I had to wait in a sea of people—sweaty, dirty, germ-laden people. As I milled about, surrounded by the great unwashed, my latent fear of germs bloomed like staphylococcus in a warm Petri dish.

…I am not alone in my germ-trollin’. The marketplace is full of gadgets and tools to keep the little baddies at bay. There is the Trayguard, a washable antimicrobial cover for airplane tray tables that uses copper and silver ions to keep disgusting things from attacking you, because we all know those tables don’t get washed more than once a decade. (To clean the armrests, there is Lysol in a handy TSA-approved travel size.) Disposable sheets are available in case you need to cover the bus station bathroom floor because you have to change your clothes. Magellan’s Travel Supplies offers Flight Spray, a nasal spray that contains Hawaiian turmeric and spearmint—natural antiseptics—to defend your nasal passages while you fly. Or you can buy your own hazmat suit, but since I hate how my butt looks in a hazmat suit, I tested a few products that addressed specific concerns I have when I’m traveling or out and about, to see if they could help calm me down.

In a world where Ebola, MERS and measles are ever-more pressing dangers, perhaps you think my focus on personal germ warfare is a tad silly. Maybe. But I will still let you borrow my Lysol.

Either way, go wash your hands.”

Following media attention focused on germs and travel, and personal experience with a lack of cleanliness of shared surfaces while travelling, a US company has created an antimicrobial tray table cover for personal use.

“With quick turnarounds and budget tightening, I was not surprised to read that on average, many airlines only deep clean their cabin interiors every 30 days,” said frequent flier and company co-founder Jason Drebitko.

Drebitko and industrial designer Alexys Wilbur, have teamed up to launch trayGUARD™+, which blends antimicrobial performance with environmental consciousness, to allay germaphobic travellers’ fears.

The concept for trayGUARD was born from Drebitko’s desire to have an antimicrobial cover that could slip over an airline tray table, cover it completely, and be disposed of or ideally recycled when leaving the plane.  The fabric used in the product is made from 100% PET recycled bottles and employs natural silver and copper ion technology.  In addition, the fabric from which it is made is the same as used for face masks used by health-care professionals to protect against microorganisms, body fluids and particulate materials during a medical emergency.

In response to increasing media attention focused on germs and travel, and personal experience with a lack of cleanliness of shared surfaces while traveling, a New England company has created an antimicrobial tray table cover for personal use. Dirty diapers, airborne germs, used tissues containing bodily fluids, and purses that have rested on the bathroom floor, rest on the airline, bus and train tray tables on which we work, sleep and eat. “Tray tables are filthy. With quick turnarounds and budget tightening, I was not surprised to read that on average, many airlines only deep clean their cabin interiors every 30 days,” says frequent flier and company co-founder Jason Drebitko. Drebitko and industrial designer Alexys Wilbur, teamed up to launch trayGUARD™+, which blends antimicrobial performance with environmental consciousness, to allay germaphobic travelers’ fears. Now in production, trayGUARD™+ is making its debut before the start of flu season in the United States.

The concept for trayGUARD™+ was born from Drebitko’s desire to have an antimicrobial cover that could slip over an airline tray table, cover it completely, and be disposed of or ideally recycled when leaving the airplane. The fabric used in the product is made from 100% PET recycled bottles and employs natural silver and copper ion technology. In addition, the fabric from which trayGUARD™+ is made utilizes Fosshield®, the same antimicrobial technology as an FDA approved face mask used by health-care professionals to protect against microorganisms, body fluids and particulate materials during a medical emergency. Fosshield® has been proven effective against a wide spectrum of microbes including bacteria, mold & fungi.

“The great thing about this product ” says Drebitko, “is that unlike wipes or gels that provide one-time, short-term protection and must be reapplied frequently, trayGUARD™+, provides a constant hygienic surface for the duration of your trip. Most importantly, trayGUARD™+ provides peace of mind that you have at least one clean surface in your personal travel space. It is one more tool in a traveler’s kit.” trayGUARD™ + is currently available for direct and wholesale purchase via the website – trayguard.com and amazon.com, as well as selected retailers.

It can be very exciting on a flight when they finally get around to the drinks and cookies (thanks Delta!). But a lot of travelers worry about putting their food or personal items on their tray tables as they can be quite dirty. If you’ve ever had a magazine stick to your table, you understand.

A company based in New England is creating a product that will ease your mind when traveling. TrayGUARD™+ is an antimicrobial cover that slips over the airline tray table and can be recycled when you deplane. The table cover is made of 100% PET recycled bottles and uses Fosshield® technology; the same technology found in FDA approved face masks. Fosshield® has been proven effective against a wide spectrum of microbes including bacteria, mold & fungi.

Jason Drebitko teamed up with industrial designer Alexys Wilbur to create the product. Drebitko said, “With quick turnarounds and budget tightening, I was not surprised to read that on average, many airlines only deep clean their cabin interiors every 30 days. “We just got back from a trip to Florida to see family and friends and of course to hit all the theme parks in Orlando. My kids are extremely lucky and have been on several flights to Florida already even at such a young age. Every time we fly I bring antibacterial wipes, antibacterial spray pens and regular wipes. Even though I try not to be one of those Mom’s who scrubs everything down, public places such as bathrooms and restaurants just grosses me out as I know no matter hard they clean germs are still lurking.

Just as I was packing for our trip, a Tray Guard review opportunity arose and I jumped at the chance as I knew my children would be using the airplane tray for their art and work activities as well as eating their snacks.

The Tray Guard is an antimicrobial tray table cover for airplanes that provides an instant hygenic surface while traveling. It is food contact safe and incorporates a chemical-free antimicrobial technology that is effective for the duration of your trip.  trayGUARD+ employs a patented antimicrobial fabric technology by FOSSHIELD®, which has been proven effective against a wide spectrum of microbes including bacteria, mold & fungi. It is made with the same antimicrobial technology used in an FDA and NIOSH approved face mask.

The thick material provided a nice cushion against the hard tray and I liked how it covered the underside of the tray as the tray had to be put up and down several times during the trip for bathroom breaks.  This product is a total thumbs up for me as a parent especially if the next generation tray guards offere fun patterns or even educational themes e.g. alphabet, numbers etc.. I may feel a bit self concious using it as a lone traveler but did you know A study in the journal of Environmental Health reports that passengers are more than 100 times likely to catch a cold on an airplane compared to everyday circumstances. I guess this explains the cold I came home with (ahem note to self to purchase a set for the whole family on next trip).
